Abstract:
This paper explores the scientific depth and philosophical
insight embedded in Surah An-Nahl (16:77–78), focusing on human limitations in
perception and cognition, divine control over space-time, and the biological
origin of awareness. The Quranic verses highlight the gap between divine
omniscience and human epistemic boundaries. We analyze the verses word-by-word
in Arabic, offer transliterations and translations, and draw parallels with
neuroscience, cosmology, and developmental biology. The paper integrates the
Al-Asr Dynamic Number System (ADNS) and the concept of pico-scale
transformations, such as the blink of an eye, as revolutionary frameworks to
understand time and divine action.
1. Arabic Text and Transliteration:
Surah An-Nahl 16:77
Transliteration:
Wa lillāhi ghaybu as-samāwāti wa al-arḍ; wa mā amru as-sāʾcati illā kalamḥi
al-baṣar aw huwa aqrabu, inna Allāha ʿalā kulli shayʿin qadīr.
Translation:
"And to Allah belongs the unseen of the heavens and the earth. And the
matter of the Hour is not but as a blink of the eye or even nearer. Indeed,
Allah is over all things competent."
Surah An-Nahl 16:78
Transliteration:
Wa Allāhu akhrajakum min buṭūni ummahātikum lā taʿlamūna shayʼan, wa jaʿala
lakumu as-samʿa wa al-abṣāra wa al-afʿidata laʿallakum tashkurūn.
Translation:
"And Allah brought you out from the wombs of your mothers while you knew
nothing, and He made for you hearing and vision and intellect that you might
give thanks."
2. Word-by-Word Elaboration and Linguistic Commentary:
· Ghayb (غيب): Hidden or unseen reality; includes dark matter, metaphysical time, and divine will.
· As-Sāʾcah (الساعة): The Hour (Day of Judgment); implies a cosmic event beyond human comprehension.
· Kalamḥi al-baṣar (كلمح البصر): Like a blink; alludes to time dilation, quantum transformations, and pico-scale moments in ADNS.
· Qadīr (قدير): Absolute power and precision; refers to both deterministic and probabilistic laws of physics.
· Samaʿ (السَّمْع): Hearing; earliest sense to develop in the fetus, foundational for learning.
· Absār (الأَبْصَار): Vision; refers to optical cortex activity and perception.
· Afʿidah (اللَّأفْئِدَة): Intellect or hearts; Arabic usage encompasses cognitive consciousness, beyond anatomy.
3. Scientific Insights and Correlations:
3.1 Blink-of-an-Eye Cosmic Events and ADNS Pico Scale
· Time Perception vs Divine Scale: In conventional physics, events at the quantum level happen on femtosecond to attosecond scales. In ADNS, the “blink of an eye” is equivalent to a pico-scale unit — a dynamic interval of zero-length that holds infinite transformation potential.
· Al-Asr Dynamic Number System (ADNS):
o Every action or transformation has a defined duration (Al-Asr).
o 0 ÷ 0 = 0 in ADNS represents a state of full transformation — exactly what occurs in a divine command that manifests instantly.
o The verse “كلمح البصر” matches this: instantaneous events (like resurrection or judgment) collapse spacetime into zero-duration events at the quantum or divine level.
3.2 Cognitive Neuroscience: Birth and Brain
· Blank Slate Hypothesis: Babies are born without conceptual knowledge. This matches the verse's statement: "you knew nothing."
· Sensory Development:
o Hearing develops by the 18th week in utero.
o Visual cortex matures post-birth.
o Cognitive faculties (prefrontal cortex) evolve over years.
· Dynamic Cognition: In ADNS, each learning event is an “Al-Asr” — having a start and end time, polarity (positive/negative), and transforming the neural state.
3.3 Gratitude and Brain Function
· Tashkurūn (تَشْكُرُون): Gratitude activates dopaminergic reward centers and is tied to mental resilience and happiness (Harvard studies).
· Spiritual and Cognitive Harmony: Gratitude marks the completion of an ADNS event cycle — a response to divine input through internal recognition.
4. Philosophical and Mathematical Reflections through ADNS
· Pico-Scale Events: Divine commands are beyond atomic clocks — existing at the pico scale of existence, invisible to classical observation.
· From Metaphysics to Neural Logic: These verses move the reader through layers of creation — from quantum time and divine decree to the human brain and gratitude.
· Ethical Epistemology: Knowledge without recognition of divine timing and control is incomplete.
Conclusion:
Surah Al-Nahl 16:77–78 bridges cosmology, embryology,
epistemology, and ADNS mathematics. It reflects divine omniscience and human
emergence through layers of development and perception. The ADNS model provides
a revolutionary lens to interpret divine actions as instantaneous,
transformation-filled moments on the pico scale — profoundly aligning Quranic
revelation with modern physics, neurobiology, and number theory.
